Under the leadership of House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA), the U.S. House of Representatives has recently passed several bills that highlight the increasingly radicalized ideology of the American left.
On June 13, 2019, the House voted, 225-193, to pass a bill amendment that would “block the Trump administration’s recent ban on using federal funds to conduct medical research” on the organs and tissues of aborted babies. Every Republican present supported the President’s ban on this grisly practice, as did three brave House Democrats. New York’s congressional delegation split along party lines, with all New York Republicans voting against the amendment and all New York Democrats other than Reps. Tom Suozzi and Nydia Velazquez (who were not present) voting in favor of it. Thankfully, this repugnant measure is highly unlikely to pass the U.S. Senate in the near future.
On June 18, the House passed a bill amendment that would prevent federal funds from being used to implement the Trump administration’s policy on “transgender” servicemembers. (The Trump administration recently adopted a common-sense policy requiring each military servicemember to dress and identify in accordance with his or her biological sex.) The vote on this amendment was 243-183. Sadly, nine House Republicans—including Reps. John Katko and Tom Reed of New York—voted in support of this misguided amendment. As with the fetal tissue research amendment, this amendment is highly unlikely to receive support in the Republican-led Senate.
