Preserving Religious Liberty

Luke 20:25: “And [Jesus] said unto them, Render therefore unto Caesar the things which be Caesar’s, and unto God the things which be God’s.”

The mission of New Yorkers for Constitutional Freedoms is to influence legislation and legislators for the Lord Jesus Christ. In so doing, we seek to exert influence in four policy areas: Protecting human life, promoting strong families, preserving religious liberty, and proclaiming justice and mercy.

Religious liberty has been appropriately described as Americans’ “first freedom.”  It is no coincidence that the Framers of the Constitution chose to place the Free Exercise Clause and its guarantee of religious liberty into the First Amendment. NYCF supports individual New Yorkers’ rights to practice their faith, to speak about their faith, and to live out their faith without undue government intrusion. NYCF also advocates for laws that allow churches to operate without government interference.  Furthermore, NYCF opposes any efforts to tax churches and other faith-based organizations.

In the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic, preserving religious liberty has become an increasingly challenging part of NYCF’s mission. Time and again, Gov. Andrew Cuomo and other elected officials have put forth regulations that intruded upon the constitutionally-protected rights of free religious exercise and free assembly. In 2020, NYCF had some success in pushing back against these intrusions, and we intend to continue to be vigilant and proactive in this regard in 2021.

We appreciate your contributions to continue this vital work.
