Planned Parenthood’s Political Allies Target Pro-Life Pregnancy Centers

As part of our Digital Day of Action, NYCF is highlighting one piece of proposed state legislation from each of the four policy areas in which we work: Protecting human life, promoting strong families, preserving religious liberty, and proclaiming justice and mercy.

As NYCF works to protect human life, blocking the passage of the Pregnancy Center Report bill (Bill S.470-Hoylman/A.5499-Glick) is a key priority in 2021. The bill is best understood as an effort to weaponize New York government to harass pro-life pregnancy centers.

The Pregnancy Center Report Bill would authorize the State Department of Health to study and report on pro-life pregnancy centers. In connection with that report, pregnancy centers would be required to comply with costly and time-consuming data collection and reporting requirements. Specifically, pregnancy centers would be directed to provide information on “services provided; numbers of clients served; client demographics; advertising; information provided to clients; professional staff; medical records collected from clients; and whether clients “have experienced a delay in receiving health care, including abortion or the initiation of prenatal care, due to a visit to a limited service pregnancy center.”

In addition to distracting pro-life pregnancy centers from fulfilling their mission, this legislation would help the state to build a case for regulating, restricting, and interfering with the operations of pro-life pregnancy centers. If the state moved in this direction, the result would be fewer pro-life pregnancy centers and more abortions in New York.

Proverbs 24:11-12: “If thou forbear to deliver them that are drawn unto death, and those that are ready to be slain; If thou sayest, Behold, we knew it not; doth not he that pondereth the heart consider it? and he that keepeth thy soul, doth not he know it? and shall not he render to every man according to his works?” At New Yorkers for Constitutional Freedoms, we thank God for the work of pro-life pregnancy centers and will continue to fight any legislation that oppresses them or interferes with their life-saving efforts.
