Earlier this year, Cecile Richards stepped down from her role as President of Planned Parenthood, having held that position since 2006. Last week, Planned Parenthood announced that it had hired Richards’s successor.
Dr. Leana Wen is scheduled to begin her tenure as the sixth-ever President of Planned Parenthood on November 12, 2018. Dr. Wen currently serves as Health Commissioner for the City of Baltimore, Maryland. According to USA Today, Dr. Wen and her family “fled from China just before her 8th birthday, were granted political asylum in the U.S. and became U.S. citizens in 2003.”
In discussing her new role, Dr. Wen said, “‘[No] organization has done more for women’s health than Planned Parenthood, and I’m truly honored to be named its president… As a patient, I depended on Planned Parenthood for medical care at various times in my own life, and as a public health leader, I have seen firsthand the lifesaving work it does for our most vulnerable communities. As a doctor, I will ensure we continue to provide high-quality health care, including the full range of reproductive care, and will fight with everything I have to protect the access of millions of patients who rely on Planned Parenthood.’”
Friends, please pray that the Lord would change Dr. Wen’s heart toward unborn children, and that Planned Parenthood’s abortion practices would be brought to an end.
