While NYCF’s work is focused on New York state government, our organization also partners with allies in other parts of the country in an effort to influence national policy.
On December 13, 2022, Susan B. Anthony (SBA) Pro-Life America wrote to the U.S. Senate and the U.S. House of Representatives to oppose the use of federal funds to pay for abortions at veterans’ health facilities. NYCF co-signed this letter along with approximately 50 other pro-life organizations. According to SBA Pro-Life America, a 1992 law bars the Department of Veterans Affairs from using federal tax dollars to fund abortions. Despite this law, however, the Biden administration issued a rule in September 2022 that purports to allow federally-funded abortions at veterans’ health facilities. Furthermore, Congress is reportedly providing a $71 million funding increase for the Office of Women’s Health at the Department of Veterans Affairs; SBA Pro-Life America believes that these funds will be unlawfully used to fund abortions and is encouraging Congress not to provide funds that could be used for this purpose.
SBA Pro-Life America President Marjorie Dannenfelser commented: “‘The pro-abortion Biden administration consistently prioritizes abortion on demand until birth, paid for by taxpayers, over authentic women’s health care. In pushing their radical agenda, they blatantly ignore both state and federal laws that save countless lives. We urge Congress to ensure that taxpayer dollars meant to support the health and well-being of our women veterans are used only for that purpose, not to promote the killing of unborn children.’”
NYCF calls upon the Biden administration to immediately terminate all unlawful efforts to make the Department of Veterans Affairs into a provider of taxpayer-funded abortions.
