NYCF Reacts To Cuomo Adoption Comments

The Cuomo administration has submitted public comments in opposition to a proposed rule from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) that would protect faith-based child welfare organizations from unfair discrimination based upon their beliefs about marriage and family. Jason J. McGuire, Executive Director of New Yorkers for Constitutional Freedoms (NYCF), made the following remarks:

“It’s no surprise that Gov. Andrew ‘No Place in the State of New York’ Cuomo wants to put faith-based child welfare organizations out of business if they don’t agree with his perspective on parenting by same-sex couples. After all, in 2014, this same governor vetoed a tax deduction for parents who adopt children from the foster care system. In 2016, this same governor vetoed a tax deduction for parents who adopt children with special needs. And last year, this same governor’s administration tried to put New Hope Family Center’s adoption placement program out of business because New Hope’s Christian beliefs require it to place children only in households with a married mother and father. Gov. Cuomo doesn’t care about kids. He cares about keeping well-funded special interest groups happy to maximize his own political power.”
