Over the past four years, New Yorkers for Constitutional Freedoms (NYCF) has grown quite familiar with the passage of radical left-wing laws here in the Empire State.
Recently, however, California legislators have passed an anti-family bill that rivals any New York law in outrageousness. NYCF’s allies at California Family Council have put forth a nationwide alert concerning this measure. The bill, SB 107, awaits action by Gov. Gavin Newsom (D-CA).
SB 107 addresses matters of child custody. Its apparent purpose is to facilitate “transgender” medical care (in other words, hormones or surgery) for minor children. As Sharon Supp stated on NationalReview.com, the bill “allows California courts to strip custody from parents – even parents who don’t live in California – who have legitimate concerns about a young child undergoing irreversible medical procedures to appear as a different gender.” As Family Policy Alliance puts it, the bill “seeks to turn California into a gender transition orphanage for children in other states.”
SB 107 would give California courts “temporary emergency jurisdiction” over minors who seek “transgender” medical care in their state. According to a nonpartisan summary, the bill would “‘prohibit a court from considering the taking or retention of a child from a person who has legal custody of the child, if the taking or retention was for obtaining gender-affirming health care or mental health care.’” This bill is nothing short of a disaster, both for parental rights and for the well-being of children—from California and from other states.
The fate of SB 107 rests in the hands of Gov. Gavin Newsom. Recently, the Governor has been mentioned as a potential 2024 Democratic presidential candidate. While Gov. Newsom is unlikely to veto this evil legislation on principle, his political aspirations might lead him to do so. Not long ago, Gov. Newsom surprised some observers by vetoing a bill that would have allowed supervised drug injection sites to open. Perhaps the Governor could be induced to do the same here.
Please urge them to contact Gov. Newsom’s office and urge him to veto SB 107. Also, please pray that this bill will not become law.
