Legislative Day Looks To The Future Of Pro-Life New York

What are your plans for Tuesday, March 19? At New Yorkers for Constitutional Freedoms (NYCF), we hope they include us!

On March 19, NYCF and our affiliate organization, New Yorkers Family Research Foundation (NYFRF), are scheduled to hold our annual Legislative Day event at the Empire State Plaza Convention Center in Albany. Attendees will hear from informative, engaging speakers; worship with hundreds of other New Yorkers from across the state; have the opportunity to visit their legislators; and be encouraged and inspired to impact government for Christ.

At this year’s Legislative Day, attendees will be challenged by Gianna Jessen. Gianna is a living, breathing face to the horrors of abortion. She’s one of the rare survivors of a saline abortion. She frequently relays her story—speaking for those who can’t speak for themselves. The failed abortion left her with the “gift” of cerebral palsy, as Jessen calls it. “It allows me to really depend on Jesus for everything,” Jessen says.

The pro-life movie October Baby is loosely based on her life story.

NYCF is also pleased to welcome Walt Heyer to speak at Legislative Day. Given the confusion surrounding gender identity in our culture, Walt’s visit is particularly timely. During his younger years, Walt identified as transgender. Following his conversion to Christianity, Walt found freedom from gender dysphoria and reclaimed his God-given identity as a man. Through his books, his public speaking, and his website (SexChangeRegret.com), Walt now assists others struggling with gender confusion.

At Legislative Day, Stephanie Woodward will look at the issue of assisted suicide from the perspective of a person with disabilities. Stephanie Woodward is the Director of Advocacy at the Center for Disability Rights and an ally of the New York Alliance Against Assisted Suicide. Stephanie is a proud disabled person and member of ADAPT, a national grass-roots community that organizes to assure the civil and human rights of people with disabilities to live in freedom. Stephanie has also testified before the NYS Assembly Health Committee in opposition to legalizing assisted suicide.

This year, we’ll also host Smart Approaches to Marijuana (SAM, Inc.). A national advocacy organization, SAM opposes the legalization and commercialization of marijuana. As many New Yorkers are aware, Gov. Andrew Cuomo intends to legalize recreational marijuana this year. SAM will equip us to understand the dangers of marijuana legalization and help us to effectively fight back against this proposal.

Finally, New Hope Ministries will be joining us at Legislative Day. New Hope is a Christian adoption agency and pregnancy care center that is faced with an untenable choice: Comply with a state mandate to place children in same-sex households or stop providing adoption placement services altogether. With help from the attorneys at Alliance Defending Freedom (ADF), New Hope is suing the State of New York to challenge this imposition upon their religious freedom.
