The Left’s denial of the possibility of sexual orientation change has become so intense that Democratic candidates are now attacked for being seen in public with anyone who is known to have experienced such change.
Last month, New York City Public Advocate Letitia “Tish” James—who is currently seeking the Democratic nomination for New York State Attorney General—spoke at Perfecting Grace Church in Freeport, Long Island. The church’s pastor is gospel singer Donnie McClurkin, who has publicly stated that God delivered him from the sin of homosexuality. Following her speech, James reportedly hugged and kissed McClurkin.
James’s appearance at McClurkin’s church has gotten her into hot water. According to the New York Daily News, one LGBT advocate who has endorsed James demanded that she “‘denounce’” McClurkin, “‘repudiate who he is and what he stands for,’” and—most tellingly—“‘apologize for humanizing him.’”
Wait. What? Does testifying to freedom from homosexuality mean losing one’s humanity?
In the past, McClurkin has said, “‘I’ve been through [homosexuality] and have experienced God’s power to change my lifestyle… I am delivered and I know God can deliver others, too.’” In the brave new world that the Left wants to impose on the United States, it isn’t enough to disbelieve McClurkin’s testimony; one must also shun him or face a public scolding from one’s supposed political allies.
So much for tolerance.
