Judge Brett Kavanaugh Nominated to U.S. Supreme Court

Albany, NY—President Donald J. Trump has nominated Judge Brett Kavanaugh of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the D.C. Circuit to fill the vacancy on the Supreme Court of the United States created by the retirement of Justice Anthony Kennedy. A graduate of Yale Law School, Judge Kavanaugh worked in private practice, served in the Office of the Solicitor General, and held multiple posts in the George W. Bush Administration before being confirmed to the D.C. Circuit Court of Appeals in May 2006. Rev. Jason J. McGuire, Executive Director of New Yorkers for Constitutional Freedoms, made the following remarks:

“Judge Brett Kavanaugh is impeccably qualified to serve on the Supreme Court of the United States. Despite being only 53 years of age, Judge Kavanaugh has more than 12 years’ experience as a judge on the most prestigious federal appeals court in the country. His educational background and credentials are exemplary, and his record demonstrates respect for the U.S. Constitution. New Yorkers for Constitutional Freedoms thanks President Trump for nominating another well-qualified judge to the Supreme Court, and we respectfully urge the U.S. Senate to confirm Judge Kavanaugh’s nomination forthwith. Furthermore, we urge Judge Kavanaugh to stick to his principles and uphold the Constitution without regard for pressure from politicians, from the media, or from other Justices of the Court.”
