Last week, Albany Update reported that physician-assisted suicide legislation had advanced from the Assembly Health Committee to the Assembly Codes Committee by a slender margin of 14-11.
New Yorkers for Constitutional Freedoms is working with our friends at the New York Alliance Against Assisted Suicide (NYAAAS) to keep this pernicious legislation from advancing any further between now and the anticipated end of the 2016 state legislative session in mid-June. Thus far, lobbying efforts with Members of the Assembly Codes Committee have proven fruitful. The Committee has 22 Members, which means that assisted suicide proponents need 12 votes to advance the bill.
While NYCF remains optimistic that physician-assisted suicide will not be approved by the Codes Committee, we need your help. Have you contacted your legislators to express your opposition to physician-assisted suicide? If not, please visit our legislative action center at AlbanyUpdate.com and e-mail them today. Also, if you are represented by a Member of the Assembly Codes Committee, please call your Assemblymember’s district office and ask him or her to vote against this bill. (You can find out who your Member of Assembly is here.) The Members of the Assembly Codes Committee are located on the Assembly website.
NYCF is standing for life and against physician-assisted suicide in Albany. Will you stand with us?
