Gender Dysphoria And The Growing ‘Detransition’ Movement

A woman from the United Kingdom who formerly identified as transgender is putting together a new organization for persons who desire to “detransition.” (“Detransitioning” refers to moving away from a “transgender” identity and re-identifying oneself with one’s true biological sex.)

According to the Daily Mail, 28-year-old Charlie Evans is a woman who lived as a male for nearly 10 years before choosing to detransition. She is forming the Detransition Advocacy Network to assist others who are going through similar experiences. Evans states that hundreds of people have sought her guidance about the process of “detransitioning.” Ms. Evans added that she has heard from “‘19 and 20-year-olds who have had full gender reassignment surgery who wish they hadn’t, and their dysphoria hasn’t been relieved, they don’t feel better for it.’”

At New Yorkers for Constitutional Freedoms, we expect to hear the voices of more young people who are disappointed in the results of their so-called “gender transitions.” We say this because the entire process of “gender transition” is based on a lie: The lie that it is possible for a person to change his or her sex. The most that a patient seeking a “gender transition” can do is to change his or her body in an effort to appear more like a member of the opposite sex. Using hormones and surgical procedures to attempt to live out a delusion is highly unlikely to be truly satisfying for anyone. As believers, we must continue to speak the truth in an effort to dissuade our neighbors who suffer from gender dysphoria from taking unwise and unsafe steps to “transition.” Furthermore, we must reach out with love and support to those who wish to reclaim their true, God-given identities.
