The 2018 legislative session has only just begun, but the assault on human life and religious liberty is already underway.
At this writing, the Comprehensive Contraception Coverage Act (CCCA) is ready for a vote in the New York State Assembly in the immediate future.
This bill, which has passed the Assembly in past years, is the brainchild of staunchly pro-abortion New York State Attorney General Eric Schneiderman. Its title is misleading. The CCCA (Bill S.3668 Bonacic/A.1378 – Cahill) does not just relate to contraception; rather, it would require all group insurance policies issued or renewed after January 1, 2018 to cover abortion-causing drugs, voluntary sterilization procedures, and all other FDA-approved contraceptive devices without restrictions, copays, or cost sharing. It is deeply disturbing that abortion-causing drugs have been made widely available; expanding insurance coverage for them is unacceptable. This bill would apply not only to insurance enrollees, but also to the covered spouses, domestic partners, and dependents of those enrollees; this provision creates parental rights concerns. The bill even requires that insurance companies “allow for the dispensing of twelve [months’] worth of a contraceptive at one time.” Finally, the bill would worsen existing flaws in New York law regarding conscience protections for faith-based charities.
Friends, please help us keep this destructive bill bottled up in the State Senate. Visit our Legislative Action Center today and write your elected officials to ask that they oppose the CCCA.
