Pro-life Americans received welcome news last week when the remaining felony charges against the makers of the infamous Planned Parenthood videos were dropped.
On July 26, the Harris County (Tx.) District Attorney’s Office dismissed all charges against David Daleiden and Sandra Merritt of the Center for Medical Progress in connection with their undercover reporting on Planned Parenthood’s trafficking in fetal organs and tissues. Daleiden and Merritt had been charged with tampering with governmental records for allegedly using fake identification to gain access to Planned Parenthood facilities.
Daleiden commented, “The dismissal of the bogus, politically motivated charges … is a resounding vindication of the First Amendment rights of all citizen journalists, and also a clear warning to any of Planned Parenthood’s political cronies who would attack whistleblowers to protect Planned Parenthood from scrutiny.”
New Yorkers for Constitutional Freedoms is thankful for the outcome in this case. The Center for Medical Progress performed a service to the nation by peeling back the curtain on one aspect of Planned Parenthood’s barbaric and abhorrent business model. Instead of charging pro-life advocates with crimes, state and federal governments should prosecute Planned Parenthood, take appropriate legislative steps to starve it of taxpayer funds, limit the legality of abortion to the extent possible under Roe v. Wade, and criminalize any trafficking in fetal organs and tissues that may currently be legal.
“My son, if sinners entice thee, consent thou not. If they say, Come with us, let us lay wait for blood, let us lurk privily for the innocent without cause: Let us swallow them up alive as the grave; and whole, as those that go down into the pit: We shall find all precious substance, we shall fill our houses with spoil… My son, walk not thou in the way with them; refrain thy foot from their path: For their feet run to evil, and make haste to shed blood… And they lay wait for their own blood; they lurk privily for their own lives. So are the ways of every one that is greedy of gain; which taketh away the life of the owners thereof” (Proverbs 1:10-13, 15-16, 18-19).
