Celebrate The Sanctity Of Human Life

Pastors and friends, please mark your calendars: Sanctity of Human Life Sunday is coming up on January 21, 2018.

The first Sanctity of Human Life Sunday was proclaimed by President Ronald Reagan in 1984. In that proclamation, President Reagan wrote:

I call upon the citizens of this blessed land to gather on that day in homes and places of worship to give thanks for the gift of life, and to reaffirm our commitment to the dignity of every human being and the sanctity of each human life. … We are poorer not simply for lives not led and for contributions not made, but also for the erosion of our sense of the worth and dignity of every individual. To diminish the value of one category of human life is to diminish us all.

Sanctity of Human Life Sunday marks the grievous anniversary of the 1973 Supreme Court decisions in Roe v. Wade and Doe v. Bolton, which were issued on January 22, 1973.

This year, Jason McGuire, NYCF’s Executive Director, will be participating in two events designed to bring attention to the issue, the Evangelicals for Life conference and the March for Life. Both events are held in Washington, DC. NYCF encourages other New Yorkers to participate in these national events or other local ones that bring attention to the sanctity of human life.

Our friends at CareNet—a national network of pro-life pregnancy centers—have created a free, downloadable Sanctity of Human Life Sunday (SOHLS) Kit that includes a bulletin insert and messages “designed to connect the abortion-vulnerable with trained individuals in your church that can offer compassion, help, and hope.”

On this year’s Sanctity of Human Life Sunday, let us continue to speak God’s truth about the evil of abortion, and let us extend our arms to those experiencing crisis pregnancies. In so doing, the Lord may use us to save the lives of unborn babies, and to share the Gospel with pregnant moms.
