2020 Presidential Campaign: Transgender Issues

At his October 15, 2020 town hall, Democratic presidential candidate and former Vice President Joe Biden (D-DE) spoke out about the “transgender” issue.

When asked what he would do to “ensure that the lives and rights of LGBTQ people are protected,” Biden responded that he would “‘flat-out change the law.’” Biden added that he would “‘eliminate’” President Donald Trump’s executive orders pertaining to “transgender” issues, and asserted that there should be “‘no discrimination’” against persons identifying as “transgender.” Biden has previously come out in favor of the so-called Equality Act, which would add sexual orientation and gender identity as protected categories under federal civil rights legislation. Also, Biden recently called violence against “transgender and gender-nonconforming people an ‘epidemic that needs national leadership’” and accused the Trump administration of fueling ‘the flames of transphobia.’”

Biden’s position on the “transgender” issue contrasts with the policies of the Trump administration. Since entering office, President Donald Trump has taken multiple steps to reverse the gender insanity of the Obama administration. In February 2017, the Trump administration rescinded an Obama-era “guidance” document that directed public schools to allow students with gender dysphoria to use opposite-sex facilities. In July 2017, the President announced the reversal of President Barack Obama’s policy of allowing military servicemembers to self-identify as members of the opposite sex and use opposite-sex military facilities. In May 2019, the Trump administration announced its opposition to the Equality Act, stating: “‘The Trump administration absolutely opposes discrimination of any kind and supports the equal treatment of all. However, this bill in its current form is filled with poison pills that threaten to undermine parental and conscience rights.’” In June 2020, the Trump administration stated its support for a new Idaho law barring biological males from participating in girls’ sports and women’s sports.

As a Christian organization, New Yorkers for Constitutional Freedoms believes in the inherent dignity and worth of every human being. Every person is made in the image of God. Accordingly, we denounce hatred and violence against our neighbors—including our neighbors who identify as lesbian, gay, or “transgender.” We also believe that lesbian, gay, and “transgender” identities are not real identities, but deceptions. We desire that people experiencing confusion and brokenness in regard to their gender or their sexuality would come to know the living Christ and to accept the true identities given to them by God. Based on our beliefs, we support equal rights and equal protection under the law for every person; however, we oppose public policies that provide special protection for lesbian, gay, and “transgender” identities as well as policies that encroach upon parental rights or religious liberty in an effort to promote an LGBT activist vision of equality.
